Happy 210th Birthday, Sarah Peter!

Sarah Peter, Founder of Moore

Sarah Worthington Peter founded the Philadelphia School of Design for Women in 1848, now Moore College of Art & Design. Born in 1800 in Chillicothe, Ohio, Sarah Peter moved to Philadelphia to marry her second husband, William Peter, the British consul to Philadelphia. Soon thereafter she established the college we all know and love.

Sarah Peter would be celebrating her 210th birthday on May 10th, 2010. The library wishes to pay tribute to the founder of our school, a committed educator and philanthropist. Happy Birthday Sarah!
